Tesla Model 3

The first Tesla Model 3 sedans have been delivered to retail customers, and the accolades are pouring in. Reviewers love it; the interior, the design, the technology, it’s battery range, lots of other things, and perhaps a bit surprisingly, as the car was not intended to be a sports car, per se, many of those reviewers come away flabbergasted at it’s handling capabilities.

Yes, the hits just keep coming for Elon Musk, and his merry band of electric performance car pioneers. Expectations for the Tesla Model 3 from Tesla fans, industry watchers, Tesla’s detractors, and finally, the public at large, were high, and Tesla appears to have blown all those expectations right out of the water.

Now, right about now, the cynical among you might be snickering to yourselves, thinking, “Man, this guy’s laying it on kind of thick here. Does he work for Tesla or something? Or, is he just a fan boy, out of control with hyperbole and praise?”

I’m neither of those things, and if you read a dozen of the hundreds of articles and or reviews about the Tesla Model 3, you will come away from that experience thinking that my recap here is actually quite restrained.

Bloomberg, which hardly qualifies as a breathless fan boy magazine, states, “Driving Tesla’s Model 3 Changes Everything”. CNET’s ‘Roadshow’ says the Tesla Model 3 is “Mass-Market and Massively Impressive”.

The car enthusiast magazines are impressed, the business magazines are impressed, and the future is looking pretty bright for Tesla’ new baby. The company now has over half a million orders (with deposits attached) for the car.

There is, however, a buzzing fly in the ointment.

Will the company be able to manufacture enough cars quickly enough to meet demand? It’s a huge problem, and a problem the company (read: Elon Musk) readily acknowledges. He voiced concerns about being in “production hell” during the coming-out press conference dedicated to the car.

If the car is as good as everyone is now saying it is, let’s hope they meet their production goals.
